The Language of Pain is an ongoing creative health project that ‘voices’ the invisible and often denied experience of chronic illness and pain. This presentation introduces our approach where we are not expected to perform wellness but show up as we are. The somatic-informed research respects and honours the body in ways that go beyond managing pain and focuses on what it means to live well with chronic health conditions. The project centres the person, not only the pain that resides in them. We describe the somatic and creative practice as empowering, resulting in increased feelings of self-efficacy and improved somatic agency.
